Corrupt Bandits for Preserving Local Privacy

چکیده
We study a variant of the stochastic multi-armed bandit (MAB) problem in which the rewards are corrupted. In this framework, motivated by privacy preservation in online recommender systems, the goal is to maximize the sum of the (unobserved) rewards, based on the observation of transformation of these rewards through a stochastic corruption process with known parameters. We provide a lower bound on the expected regret of any bandit algorithm in this corrupted setting. We devise a frequentist algorithm, KLUCBCF, and a Bayesian algorithm, TS-CF and give upper bounds on their regret. We also provide the appropriate corruption parameters to guarantee a desired level of local privacy and analyze how this impacts the regret. Finally, we present some experimental results that confirm our analysis.

Differentially Private Local Electricity Markets
Privacy-preserving electricity markets have a key role in steering customers towards participation in local electricity markets by guarantying to protect their sensitive information. Moreover, these markets make it possible to statically release and share the market outputs for social good. This paper aims to design a market for local energy communities by implementing Differential Privacy (DP)...

متن کاملDirect Anonymous Attestation (DAA): Ensuring Privacy with Corrupt Administrators
The Direct Anonymous Attestation (DAA) scheme provides a means for remotely authenticating a trusted platform whilst preserving the user’s privacy. The protocol has been adopted by the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) in the latest version of its Trusted Platform Module (TPM) specification. In this paper we show DAA places an unnecessarily large burden on the TPM host. We demonstrate how corrupt a...
متن کاملCatching Bandits and Only Bandits: Privacy-Preserving Intersection Warrants for Lawful Surveillance
Motivated in part by the Snowden revelations, we address the question of whether intelligence and lawenforcement agencies can gather actionable, relevant information about unknown electronic targets without conducting dragnet surveillance. We formulate principles that we believe effective, lawful surveillance protocols should adhere to in an era of big data and global communication networks. We...
متن کاملA centralized privacy-preserving framework for online social networks
There are some critical privacy concerns in the current online social networks (OSNs). Users' information is disclosed to different entities that they were not supposed to access. Furthermore, the notion of friendship is inadequate in OSNs since the degree of social relationships between users dynamically changes over the time. Additionally, users may define similar privacy settings for their f...
